Early Years Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA)
What is it?
The Early Years ELSA project is a four half-day training programme aiming to enable early years staff to support and develop children's emotional wellbeing. Staff attend training sessions and group supervision sessions led by Haringey Educational Psychologists who are registered with the National ELSA Network. Upon completion of the training the member of staff has an additional new title: Early Years Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (Early Years ELSA).
What are the benefits?
Staff will receive training in planning and delivering programmes of support to children in the early years who are experiencing temporary or longer term additional emotional needs. The majority of ELSA support is expected to be delivered on an individual basis, but sometimes some small group work will be appropriate, especially in the areas of social skills.
